Let’s start with prime numbers. A prime number is a natural number greater than 1 that has only two positive divisors: 1 and itself. This means that a prime number cannot be formed by multiplying two smaller natural numbers.

Why is 7 a prime number? Because when we try to divide it by any other number smaller than itself (except 1), we always end up with remainders. In simpler terms, 7 cannot be divided evenly by any number other than 1 and 7 itself.

Composite Numbers

Now, let’s move on to composite numbers. A composite number is a natural number greater than 1 that has more than two positive divisors. In other words, a composite number can be formed by multiplying two or more smaller natural numbers.

Example of a Composite Number: 8

Why is 8 a composite number? Because besides 1 and 8, it can also be evenly divided by 2 and 4. Unlike prime numbers, composite numbers have divisors other than just 1 and the number itself.
